Question the Rules: Unconventional Business, Punk-Rock Entrepreneurship, and True Badassery
The brilliant and infamous Johnny B. Truant and Lee Stranahan have put together a 4-module course in unconventional entrepreneurship that seriously blows our socks off.
Aside: I want to rhyme that with “gets our rocks off”, but I think someone will end up offended and I’ll get in trouble. Except it’s just such a good rhyme. Then I could top the analogy off by calling the course orgasmic. What, too much?
Let’s take a look at how this thing is put together before I doing anything (else) to compromise my dignity.
We have 4 course modules, a huge haul of bonuses, and 16 interviews. That is not a typo. There are actually 16 — SIXTEEN — audio interviews, and the names on that list are slick. I’m not saying that because I’m one of them, but holy shit, I’m in good company. There are some doozies in here:
- Guillebeau, for instance. (World Domination Guide FTW!)
- The lovely Sonia Simone, pink-haired copy-goddess of much renown.
- Jason-freaking-Fried of 37-freaking-Signals, quickly moving on before I say anything to completely embarrass myself.
- The mad stylings of John T. Unger, badass firebowl dude & proprietor of the always fantastic Art Heroes Radio. (You know how we feel about John, because we cajoled him into participating in the Creative Spark Plug Lecture Series. We are ridiculous fans.)
- Uh, and 12 more. It’s an amazing list — you can see them all here, about 2/3 down the page.
Some delicious course module goodness:
The Punk Rock DIY Mindset. “F-you and your rules, I’m gonna do it my way” — this is the punk rock mojo the course is based on. We live in a world that teaches us to play by the rules from a very young age. Those of us inclined to buck the system often don’t have much guidance or support, and that’s a gap that frustrates a hell of a lot of entrepreneurs. This course goes a long way towards filling the gap and ending that frustration.
Setting Real Goals. Doing what you love for a living does not have to end on the street living under cardboard boxes. The minute you get seriously mindful about your life and the goals you’re setting, you’re on a fast track to building your own dream house (instead of somebody else’s).
Faith and Belief. This is Not Your Grandmother’s Faith & Belief Module. We’re not talking about religion — we’re talking about getting out there and doing what you can. We’re talking about faith in yourself, and getting what you need when you need it. Risk and uncertainty are vital conditions to success, and you can navigate them with knowledge and courage. This module is incredibly introspective and enlightening — well worth the price of admission all by itself.
May we quote the Rolling Stones? “You can’t always get what you want . . . But . . . you just might find, you get what you need . . .”
Networking Outside the Box: This one’s the real meat of the course, and it is good stuff. Lee Stranahan is a genius networking superstar — we are not screwing with you. Not to mention the fact that Johnny always has a few unexpected tricks up his sleeve (Chris Brogan business cards, anyone?) and as you have probably guessed from the title of this module, their combined approaches fall far outside the bounds of boring every-day “networking”. We’re talking real connections, finding connections you have but haven’t noticed, stair-stepping networking, something called “selective starfucking”… okay, you’re getting the idea. They did say outside the box, after all.
And Jesus, it’s Lee and Johnny. You know what you’re getting into, here. What the hell were you expecting? ;}
Yeah, you love it. That’s what we thought.
PS. There is more than 20 hours of audio in this course, and easily $500 of bonuses. It is not for the faint-hearted. In fact, I would venture to say that it’s only for those of you In Search of True Badassery.
PPS. The launch price is available until Saturday, May 1st — that’s tomorrow — at which point it goes from $97 to $397. Seriously, guys, pick this up. It’s well-worth it at any price, but you really want to get it now.
