Hi Meghan,
You can sign me up for this today. Or, sign me up for it yesterday if it's already filled up. THIS IS PERFECT! I've been in Toastmasters for four years and it has certainly given me the skills I need to get in front of a group, but I do need something more - something closer to my heart, like TED! You made my day...now...virtual ToasTED meetings? I'm on board!

Ooh, fun! I'm a speaking coach & teacher, love speaking and yet avoid Toastmasters for some reason. I wonder if they are similar to yours (feels formulaic/too structured, want more emphasis on passion for the topics covered... though I don't think Toastmasters has to be this way, it just often ends up that way... ). I love TED speeches because of the passion, which probably comes largely from people talking only on topic they adore. So much of great speaking starts (but definitely does NOT end) at true thrill over the topic being covered.

I love your idea. Can't wait to be involved in this!

I like the way nagem thinks!

There is much to think on this - first and foremost, before working out guidelines, is working out the goal. What do you want to do in a TED-specific talk? (I have my own ideas, but won't add them in just yet)

Once we have an outcome/goal/focus, many of the guidelines will arise organically. More discussion needed...

Well, if you do this then I hope you'll let me know because I am so IN.

I imagine that TED does have guidelines, but there are some you know off the top of your head: Cutting edge, New Thought, From the Heart...

What are the things you think are missing from Toastmasters? Add those things to the guidelines.

What do you love about TM? Add those to the guidelines.

Are you going to write guidelines and then provide lessons/resources on how to do things well? We could do a lesson and then each do a talk, record it and upload it to YouTube for group commentary... Talks would have to be on our area of passion, but follow the guidelines given.

See, now I'm all excited. Maybe I could give a talk on why it excites me ;).

This is brilliant! Consider this comment a jump at the chance to be involved. I'm in!

My wife and I have been talking about joining Toastmasters lately. I think this would be a great alternative and/or supplement to Toastmasters.
