The 2 Questions Between You and Bliss

by Megan M. on January 24, 2010

More and more, I notice that I’m not interested — for me, for anybody — in work that simply pays the bills.

You know this, of course, but there’s a big difference between saying it and living it. I have said for a long time that work-for-money is not enough. And now, I find that it’s really true. I’ve turned down six or seven projects in the past few weeks because if I had said yes, it would have been purely about making money to pay my bills.

And that’s not enough for me anymore.

The more you say it to yourself, the more your actions will reflect it. And all of us will be happier and healthier if we start nudging our respective pastimes towards this goal. It takes time, but it’s worth it. The harder you push, the further forward you lean, the sooner you’ll find yourself there, breathing it in. Sure, we need work that pays money. But that can’t be all it does.

Whether you call it art, or purpose, or following your heart, it doesn’t matter. We’re all talking about the same thing.

The point is not how much money we can make, or how many bills we can pay, or how big we can grow the margin between our present state and the wolves at the door. Even to support the meaning in our lives, this isn’t enough.

The point is in these two questions, right here.

Who can we help? and
How much fun can we have along the way?

The sooner you understand this, the closer you’ll be.

So go find it.

I love this–this is exactly what I have been using as an “excuse” for not walking down a different path. You make it so vividly clear that not only the answers–but the questions themselves are, ARE the best reasons to do what you love.
    Thanks!!
